City Escape

YANGON.

The capital of Myanmar has a unique charm; with it's old colonial building, tree – lined streets. Bustling local markets and tranquil lake, here you'll find famous golden pagodas like Shwedagon Pagoda, Sule Pagoda, Botahtaung Pagoda and Chuk – htut – Gyi Pagoda that glisten amongst the trees and buildings etc The Majestic Shwedagon Pagoda is the jewel of Yangon. Herein lies eight strands of Buddha hair, where amazing events took place when the hairs were enshrined. Its tall golden spire can be viewed from all over the city.

A visit to Bogyoke Aung San Park will find the Karaweik, a restaurant modeled after the legendary water-bird sitting in the lake. Besides serving Myanmar cuisine, it is also an arena for cultural performances.

For a history of Myanmar, the National Museum is the ideal place for an educational and enlightening experience.
 


Yangon and Its Environs

Thanlyin, was the base during the late 1500 years and early 1600 years for the notorious Portuguese adventurer Philip De Brito. Officially a trade representative for the Rakhine, he actually ran his own little Kingdom from Thanlyin. Thanlyin continue as a Major Port and trading central unit. It was destroyed by King Alaung Paya in 1756. You can make and excision across the river to Thanlyin and on to the mid river Paya ( Pagoda ) at Kyauk Tan. It is only one driving from Yangon.

Bago

MANDALAY
.

The last capital of the Myanmar Kingdom, Mandalay is the second largest city after Yangon. Known as the center of Myanmar culture, it is a cultural area rich in traditional dance, music and refined arts. Mandalay is also noted for its fine gold and silver crafts, marble and wood carvings, silk tread weaving and ancient tapestry.

Pyin Oo Lwin

Pyin Oo Lwin is former name Maymyo. 67 Km to the northeast of Mandalay. As it is over 3000 ft above sea level it is cool the whole year round. So Maymyo is famous as a hill station and summer resort in the time of British colonialism and is still so. Vicinity of Maymyo is beautiful water – falls, famous botanical garden and splendid cave. Different kinds of flowers and many varieties orchards grow in profusion in Maymyo.

TAUNGGYI

The Capital of Southern Shan State. Taunggyi is the one the exit way of Thailand. Shan state is biggest state among the others in Myanmar. Myanmar has 8 major tribes. Shan is one of major tribe which is biggest population. For a slight diversion from the majestic pagoda. and Inle lake (22.4 Km ).




 


Inle
.

Inle for a slight diversion from the majestic pagodas, the Inle Lake in Shan Plateau will leave you amazed as to how the Intha tribe practically live off the lake. Marine food and vegetation are in abundance throughout the 22.4 km lake. The Inthas build their homes on stilts over the lake and vegetable farming is cultivated by a floating garden. The fishermen here use a long cone – shaped trap to fish from their narrow boats. They propel the boat by paddling with one leg.

SITTWAY

Rakhine State, 14200.083 square miles, one of the state in Myanmar, It is situated west of Myanmar coast line. Rakhine state have Sittway, Maungtaw Buthidaung, Mrauk U and Waithali cities etc…

The Banks of Aundatchaung, a tributary of Kaladan River and was bordered by lush forests. Tour of this ancient city must begin at the Royal Palace though not much remains of it. It was a magnificent structure built in three terraces. Within the palace wall is a museum showcasing religious sculptures of Buddha images. Krishna stature and frescoes from the Shit-Thaung temple which should be your next port of call.

It is one of the most well – preserved Temples. The name refers to the 80,000 images inside Built in 1535 by King Minbin, the pagoda is constructed of six feet thick sandstone.

MYITKYINA

The Capital of Kachin State. It is unlikely that it will become particularly popular. Looking into the future, it may be that this area could become a trekking center. There are numerous Kachin Villages in the area, and the forested hills, fast flowing rivers and plentiful agricultural produce especially the fresh fruits and vegetables .Could make their an area where people come to hike and relax .
 


Puta – O

Puta-O is another town in Kachin State surrounded by snow peaked mountains .It is cool the whole year round and there are many varieties of citrus fruits grown in the orchards .It is the nearest town to the base camp for climbing Mt Khakhaborazi ( 5889 Meter ) which is the highest mountain in Myanmar and south east Aria .




 


Inndawgyi Lake

Inndawgyi Lake is truly picturesque , set in a high basin carved out of a mountain area south of the Indian border. Inndawgyi is the largest lake in Myanmar. It is 16 miles long 7 miler wide and 700 feet about sea level .

HAKHA
